Refreshing my brain on all the presentations we had for interculture communication for a second round made me realize how more enjoyable and informative it was originally. Usually, people tend to clock out after their presentations is over since all the pressure and anxiety is lifted from them. Typically, presentations tend to be boring due to boring slides and awkward pauses however this class is different in many ways due to its online format. Its online format allowed people to have more of a voice and have less awkward pauses since you didn't have to present physically and be scared to look into other people's face, allowing them to enter their own flow when presenting. Personally, I loved working in my group (group one) and enjoyed listening to the other group due to the many relatable topics to everyday life. The presentations weren't simply about memorizing information for a grade, it focused on communication, navigating in a team-based setting and understanding peop...

By taking this course, I have changed my perspective about communication from being a linear , transactional exchange of information ( A speaks to B ) based on the clarity of words alone to recognizing that communication is much more than that . Communication is multi - dimensional and complex ; it is comprised of a complex set of elements, including cultural conditioning, psychological defense systems , and social dynamics. When it comes to bridging a divide between cultures or collaborating on a project with high stakes , being successful relies heavily on your ability to interpret the unwritten rules of the environment in which you are working . This reflection will be an opportunity for me to honestly assess how understanding these principles has changed my personal behaviors , my challenges , and how I approach working with others . One of the major insights I gained from the unit about In...

Blog# 1 Carlos Martinez

Group one covers chapter 3 titled Intercultural communication. Those who were involved were Carlos Martinez, Anisley Olano, Jason Martinez, Aaron Begazo, Cristian Zambrana, Angelique Santamaria, Alejandra Mejia, Daniel Valladares,Claribel Garcia. At first, much like with any group of people that don’t know each other it took some time for everyone to get comfortable with each other. So it  began by first taking the role of who was going to go first as well as who was going to cover what of the chapter. Once that was sorted everyone began to work on their own parts with the accessional questions such as “Is this correct" or “does this need more information. What also helped was that we all had each other's contact information so if there was a problem it could be resolved quickly. Samuel, constance support with the group was another factor that was very helpful as we could send him any work and check if there are any parts that can be improved or parts that can change for so...

I enjoyed everyone's presentations. I will start with my group first as that is the one I am most familiar with. Angelique, our group leader, made the process very easy to collaborate on the project and is continuously providing a welcoming vibe. I tend to be anxious about presenting and group projects and she gave every opportunity that she could to ensure that I was comfortable and she showed that same compassion to everyone in the group. I would also like to offer praise to Anisley Olano because of how two of her slides glitched and she carried on as if nothing had happened very smoothly. Among other presentations from my group, I enjoyed Jason Martinez's final graphic, which was a much needed pop of color amongst all of our slides and was a succinct final slide for his topics and for chapter 3, which we covered. Additionally, I found Aaron Begazos' images humorous and Claribel Garcia's ability to elaborate on each point while making sure to measure her words so as n...

Review on the presentations

Review on the presentations By. Daniel Valladares Last week in speech class, we had our final round of presentations, and honestly, it was way more interesting than I expected. Usually, long presentations make my brain check out halfway through (ADHD problems), but this time I actually stayed focused because everyone brought something different to the table. It didn’t feel like we were just repeating textbook definitions people made the topics feel real. Angelique’s Presentation — Intercultural Communication Angelique’s presentation stood out to me because she explained intercultural communication in a way that actually made sense. She talked about things like individualism vs. collectivism and high‑context vs. low‑context communication, but she didn’t make it boring or confusing. She connected everything to real situations, like how people act in group projects or how misunderstandings happen because we all communicate differently. What I liked most was how she reflected on her ...

Cristian Zambrana Presentations blog

Cristian Zambrana I thought all presentations from not only my group but the other groups were very enjoyable to sit through and found them very informative. More specifically the presentations in Group 2. The reason I enjoyed Group 2's presentations on Chapter 9 "Communicating in Groups" is because I  found the topic to be very relevant and important since communication and teamwork are skills that people use not only throughout college, but also in future careers and everyday life. I also enjoyed the visuals the presentations had to offer which made it easier to understand and stay engaged throughout it. Another thing I also really enjoyed from the presentations were how in depth they went with the topics or definitions. For the section "The Nature and Types of Groups". The three different types of groups being Families, Social Groups, and Support groups were very fleshed out and well described. Families were described as a group with shared purpose and one of...

Aaron Begazo SPC1017 Before making and seeing the presentations, I never truly thought about how many factors affected the way we communicate with others. Many of the groups covered just how many different things come into play when talking and interacting with people, such as race, age and generation, disabilities, leadership, and culture. My group in particular discussed intercultural communication, and something I quickly realized was how closely this topic connected with the other groups presentations on communicating in groups along with leadership and problem solving. Together, the presentations showed how communication is influenced by both our upbringings, culture and environment we lived in.  The topic I was tasked with discussing as part of my group was socioeconomic status, otherwise known as SES, which refers to a person or family’s social and economic position in society. While researching this topic, I realized how strongly things such as income, education, and a per...
