Blog# 1 Carlos Martinez

Group one covers chapter 3 titled Intercultural communication. Those who were involved were Carlos Martinez, Anisley Olano, Jason Martinez, Aaron Begazo, Cristian Zambrana, Angelique Santamaria, Alejandra Mejia, Daniel Valladares,Claribel Garcia. At first, much like with any group of people that don’t know each other it took some time for everyone to get comfortable with each other. So it  began by first taking the role of who was going to go first as well as who was going to cover what of the chapter. Once that was sorted everyone began to work on their own parts with the accessional questions such as “Is this correct" or “does this need more information. What also helped was that we all had each other's contact information so if there was a problem it could be resolved quickly. Samuel, constance support with the group was another factor that was very helpful as we could send him any work and check if there are any parts that can be improved or parts that can change for something better. When it came down to the presentation itself Samuel began by giving a brief description of as a whole chapter 3. After Samuel I followed in the presentation beginning with Culture and Communication then by Anisley who covered Sex and Gender which led to Jason who covered Sexual Orientation then Aaron with Socioeconomic Status then Culture differed by Cristian with Angelique covering Chronemics with the last three parts of the chapter. Alejandra covering Masculinity/Femininity. The last two being Daniel covering Long/ Short term orientation and finally Claribel with Developing Intercultural Communication Competence.

Group 2 presentation covers chapter 9 which is communicating in groups those in the group were Destinee, Eric, Giovani, Hazel, Jeremiah, Maria, and Kimberly. It began with Jeremiah covering Families, Social Groups, and Support Groups Jeremiah explains the authority that families usually have were one make most of the decisions and the others followed by Social groups which are made by friends and those that are not family lastly with Support groups which are very important due to the fact that the people who make this group are people with problems that have come together in order to help each other and those in need. After Jeremaih followed by Giovani whose topics were Interest and Service groups. Giovani begins with Interest groups which are groups of people who share interests or hobbies, an example being “Black Lives Matter.” Then goes to Service Groups who mainly do charity work or raise money to complete work that requires help but can't afford to pay. Finally ending with Work Groups and Teams. Work Groups being groups made of three people who all held each other accountable for each other's work this is further brokered into two different groups heterogenous and homogenous. The first being a group made of people with different ideas, opinions, and ways of doing things. While the latter is made of people that are like minded and share similar ideas and ways of doing things. After Giovani, Eric does his part which is "Characteristics of Healthy Groups” beginning with ethical groups who could improve society with their honorable and honest ideals. Then the next slide is interdependent which is described as if one member fails it impacts the rest of the group. Ending with cohesive which is described as feeling secure with those of a group meaning that when discussing topics everyone is respected. The second half of 9-2 is done by Kimberly which begins with norms which help create structure as well as helping others understand what is acceptable in their groups. Which leads to the next part of accountability which is when each member makes sure that they are responsible for their own actions/work. The final part of 9-2 being Synergy which is defined as group members whose abilities all work together to improve the overall team.

Samual then introduces group 3 which covers chapter 10 titled “Group leadership and Problem Solving” ; those presenting it are Mayuri Cazeres, Nathaly Garcia, Reinaldo Diez Roberto Suarez, Takya McKeller, Valentina Cardenas, Victoria Garcia, and William Acosta. Beginning with Victoria covering leadership which is defined as a person who guides others toward their goals. Following leaders the next part is “types of leaders” being formal and informal both being important. After Victoria follows Mayuri with “Shared leadership” meaning those in the group working together towards their goals. Following goals we go to task roles being which fall into three categories: Givers, Seekers, and Analyzers. Starting off with Givers who contribute ideas and information to help the group, Seekers who ask questions and look for others opinions on topics, and lastly Analyzers who examine ideas and help make decisions in the group. The reason that this roles are imported is because they keep the group on track and organized. The next part being "Maintenance Role” which are defined as positive relationships with each other. This being Supporters, Harmonizers, and Mediators. Supporters being those that encourage and help others creating a positive impact in the work environment following being Harmonizers those who help reduce tension between members and keeping the peace and lastly Mediators who help others understand their the people around them and their opinions. Ending the slide with Procedural roles this are defined as those who organized the group together this being Gatekeepers, Recorders, and Experiters. Beginning with gatekeepers who make sure that everyone is equal when they share their opinions followed by recorders who take notes and keep track of information finally expeditors who help keep the conversion activated. The next part is covered by William who discusses “Guidelines for Meeting Leaders” which is a step on what to do in order to make a successful environment as a leader that being preparing and distributing an agenda. They also make sure that those who are part belong their and see who attends the meetings. During the meeting the leaders should make sure that everyone is participating in the meeting and engage in the content of the meeting.
