Blog #2 Carlos Martinez

The difference between the first presentation and the second are seen as in the first presentation everyone was getting to know each other but by the second everyone has an understanding of each other's work. Of course we still had Samuel and Veronica for help when we needed it. The project began by choosing what era we would do. We decided on the 1700s & 1800s. Something else that we had to decide was whether we would focus more on the 1700s or the 1800s. We chose to focus more on the 1800s since people know less about the 1800s than the 1700s. But we still needed to cover the 1700s so three chose changemakers from the 1700s and the rest from the 1800s. For the 1700s changemakers were Benjamin Franklin by Jason, James Madison by Claribel and Alexander Hamilton by Daniel. For the 1800s the changemakers were Susan B Anthony by Carlos, Abraham Lincoln by Cristian, Frederick Douglass by Aaron, Harriet Tubman by Alejandra, Florence Nightingale by Angelique, and finally Elizabeth Cady Stanton by Anisley. Once we had are chainmakers the next step was to see who goes in order. That being Jason, Claribel, Daniel for the 1700s which were the founding fathers then after would be those who had a massive impact during the 1800s. Those bring in order of Carlos, Cristian, Aaron, Alejandra, Angelique, and finally Anisley. Once the order was done everyone was responsible for their work and that if they needed help they would contact the group or Samuel and Veronica if they wanted to make sure that what was being added was good for the project.

Group 2 presentation was from the 1900s to 1949. Beginning with Samuel introducing the group and giving an overall guide as to what the topics are going to be. She inspired other civil rights activists as well as helped create lasting organizations and was remembered as a pioneer for equality. Next is Jane Addams by Kimberly, a social reformer, woman right advocate as well as a founder of Hull house. Addams created Hull House in order to help immigrants and poor families she also advocated for women rights as well as fought against child labor and even supported better education and public health programs. Thanks to Addams, people with a disadvantage had a stronger voice in stoically as well as help women advance in participating in government as well as encourage citizens to be involved with their communities. After Kimberly is Jeremiah with Wesley Augustus William who grew up during a time of segregation and discrimination. He worked for the U.S. postal service before joining FDNY and developed a commitment to public service. One of the first african american firefights in the department unfortunately he faced racial discrimination and segregation but even with those challenges still served. William was promoted to lieutenant of the FDNY becoming the first black battalion chief in the FDNY history inspiring future generations of firefighters. William's impact opened doors for other people of color to become firefighters as well as inspired diversity and inclusion in the FDNY and even helped pave the way for future leaders. The next slide is Malcolm X by Giovani Malcolm's parents who were both activists. After his father's death he was removed from his mother and put into foster home. In 1946 he was convicted of burglary and sent to prison in where he spent most of his time educating himself on the religion and teachings of Elijah muhammad. Which result in him joining the nation of Islam and changing his last name to X. He later founded the OAAU with the purpose of unifying non-muslim african americans with the people of african continent.
